Merino+ Wool Saddle Pads - FAQ's

Why choose a LeMieux Merino+ Wool Saddle Pad?

Merino wool is much denser and softer than older sheep’s wool. There’s nothing better for a horse’s back than natural wool. That’s because it promotes blood circulation and helps to regulate temperature throughout summer and winter.

Wool saddle pads also regulate humidity, control bacteria, and prevent bruising, scarring, chaffing, and pressure sores.

What are the features of a Wool Saddle Pad?

Our woollen saddle pads are less bulky than other pads. Their unique shape minimises heat and weight, providing optimum comfort under the saddle.

They come with a range of features, such as D-ring straps, a swan neck design, and a strengthened teardrop girth protection area.

Who are LeMieux Merino Wool Saddle Pads for?

Sheepskin saddle pads are perfect for horses with sensitive skin. The natural fibers provide comfort without causing allergies or reactions. Merino wool is incredibly breathable, meaning you can use a wool saddle pad all year round.

How should you look after a LeMieux Merino Wool Saddle Pad?

LeMieux merino wool saddle pads need a little extra care than traditional pads. You can either wash your pad on a wool cycle (max 30 degrees) or by hand using LeMieux Wool Wash or non-biological powder.

Close all hooks and loops first and remove dirt, debris, and dried sweat using a stiff brush. Once washed, flatten the fabric. Always air dry. Don’t tumble dry or place directly on a heat source.

How long can you use a LeMieux Merino Wool Saddle Pad?

If washed carefully on a wool cycle or by hand, our wool saddle pad will last for years. Using a wash bag will also help to maintain the fabric.

Due to the nature of the fabric, the wool fibres will become more compact over time. Once your pad stops providing adequate protection under the saddle, it’s time to replace it.
